Maple Grove Hosts Pop-Up Recreation Events
This summer, Maple Grove is reaching out to teens with special pop-up recreation events.
On Wednesdays and Thursdays, kids and teenagers in grades 6-12 can come out to try new games and make new friends at Central Park and Weaver Lake Park.
Wednesday afternoon, the temperature was in the 80’s, and humidity was not a factor. Yet even on a day with beautiful weather, some kids would prefer to stay glued to their devices.
Maple Grove’s Youth Outreach Director, Crystal Anderson, introduced a new program this summer called ‘Pop-Up Recreation’ that’s aimed at getting kids off their devices and playing outside.
Pop-Up Recreation Gets Kids Moving
Each week through Aug. 16, Anderson and her staff will set up games at Central Park and Weaver Lake Park such as kickball, capture the flag, bocce ball, lighting and more.
All kids have to do is get out of their house, come to the park, and look for the staff members wearing red shirts.
The remaining Pop-Up Rec events at Central Park take place on Wednesdays: July 25, Aug. 1, Aug. 8, Aug. 15.
The remaining Pop-Up Rec events at Weaver Lake Park happen on Thursdays: July 19, July 26, Aug. 2, Aug. 9, and Aug. 16.
All events go from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
