Maple Grove Girls Basketball Coach Mark Cook Placed on Leave
Maple Grove girls basketball head coach Mark Cook is on a leave of absence from both his coaching and teaching roles with Osseo Area Schools, a district spokesperson confirmed Wednesday with CCX News.
The district official could not share the nature of the leave due to data privacy laws.
Cook recently won his 400th career game for Maple Grove, one of the highest ranked teams in Class 4A. He did not coach in the top-seeded Crimson’s Section 5 quarterfinal game on Tuesday, an 83-38 win over Irondale.
Appointed in 2024, Cook also serves on the Osseo City Council. He was in attendance for the Monday, Feb. 23 meeting.
It’s unknown how long Cook will remain on leave from Osseo Area Schools. Cook has been the head coach at Maple Grove since the 2005-06 season. He was named the Class 4A State Coach of the year last season by the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association. The Crimson girls lost to Hopkins in the Class 4A state championship game last year.
This is a developing story and CCX News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
