Maple Grove Farmers Market Says Shop Local for Thanksgiving
The Maple Grove Farmers market will open the Tuesday before Thanksgiving this year as a way to encourage people to shop and eat local for Thanksgiving dinner. The market is open in the Maple Grove Community Center Tuesday Nov. 26 from 3-6 p.m.
“Fall has a lot of great produce still, which is something people don’t expect,” said Kirsten Weigle, who manages the market. “Our growers are getting more sophisticated all the time in terms of tunnel growing structures and greenhouse growing structures.”
Kirsten says this year has been a great year for Minnesota pumpkins and squash.
The Maple Grove Farmers Market moves inside during the fall and spring months. There’s still more than 20 vendors who bring local food and crafts to sell.
“One of the things people ask about the indoor market is, is it a craft market,” said Weigle. “We’d like people to know we are all about the food. We have a full line of locally raised meats. If you name it, you can buy it here.”
