Maple Grove Days Canceled for 2020
The Maple Grove Community Organization has canceled the city’s signature summer festival, Maple Grove Days. The organizatio made the announcement Monday, April 27.
“Our organization has always held the safety of our event patrons, volunteers, city staff, first responders, committee, and community as our number one priority in every event we create. The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges to festivals around the country and Maple Grove Days (MGD) included,” read a statement Debra Syhre with the Maple Grove Community Organization released on Monday. “Our planning committee and Board of Directors have been monitoring the local, state, and federal COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions while diligently reviewing every aspect of our MGD event to see what options and possibilities we may have, if any, to proceed with events under the new guidance. However, with extensive review, our Board of Directors and Committee members have determined that to proceed with hosting MGD 2020, we would not only be putting all involved at unnecessary risk, it would be socially and financially irresponsible.”
All events connected to Maple Grove Days, including the parade, will be canceled. The event was scheduled for July 8-12.
The organization offered to refund sponsorship dollars or use them toward regular fees and costs of the organization.
The Maple Grove Community Organization has planned the city’s festival for more than 30 years. Maple Grove isn’t the only community that has canceled its summer festival. Crystal announced the cancellation of Crystal Frolics last week.
