Maple Grove Council Approves High School Expansion
The Maple Grove City Council approved a project Monday that the Osseo Area School District considers essential to meet a growing school population.
The city council approved plans for a significant expansion at Maple Grove Senior High School.
The expansion includes multiple additions, featuring 21 new classrooms, a larger cafeteria and a larger, more secure entrance, according to city council documents. A new parking lot and a new entrance lane off of the Fernbrook Lane and 99th Avenue intersection are also part of the plans.
“I’m excited to see this come to fruition as someone who is at the school on a daily basis,” said Maple Grove City Council Member Rachelle Johnson. “It serves a lot of students.”
CCX News reported on the plans last month that were tabled by the city’s planning commission due to concerns about the potential loss of a city-owned playground on the school property. The school district has since agreed to put in a new playground at a different location near the school.
Approximately 2,300 students attend Maple Grove High School, making it currently the 13th largest high school in the state based on recent enrollment figures.
The expansion will allow the school to serve roughly 400 more students.
