Maple Grove City Council Revokes License of Problem Rental Home
The Maple Grove City Council has revoked the license of a rental home that neighbors say has caused crime concerns and livability issues that have been ongoing for months.
CCX News first reported on the issues in November.
According to Maple Grove police, officers responded to 10 calls for service this year at the property, located at 7680 Berkshire Way N. Since Jan. 1, 2022, there have been a total of 26 police calls and other law enforcement activity, city documents also revealed.
Incidents reported include noise complaints, disorderly conduct and other disruptions, the documents showed.
In one incident in November, Minneapolis police chased after a vehicle until the pursuit ending at the Maple Grove home. The two suspects in the vehicle crashed into a squad car and tried to run away, police said.
Officers eventually arrested the suspects and recovered two handguns. One of the suspects arrested is connected to a mass shooting.
Demario Dempsey, 18, has been charged with fleeing police and illegal handgun possession.
After Dempsey’s arrest in Maple Grove, he was also charged with nine counts of attempted murder in connection with a mass shooting in Minneapolis. For the Minneapolis incident, he was charged as a minor, but the state is moving to certify him as an adult.
Maple Grove city code allows for the revocation of a rental license for properties that have “created a danger to the public health, safety, or welfare.”
The city council approved the revocation at its Dec. 16 meeting without further discussion. The decision came after a neighborhood meeting earlier this month.
