Maple Grove City Council Approves Specialty Indian Grocery Store
The Maple Grove City Council unanimously approved a new grocery store that will be located at County Road 30 and Garland Lane in the northwest part of the city.
Texas-based Desi Brothers Farmers Market specializes in Indian and Middle Eastern foods and ingredients.
“It will provide a need for the community that we don’t have today,” said Maple Grove Mayor Mark Steffenson during Monday’s city council meeting.
The grocery store will be built on a vacant lot between the AutoZone and Walgreens stores. Maple Grove City Council member Karen Jaeger wondered whether the roads accessing the site would be able to handle the traffic.
“We didn’t see that there would be any issues that it wouldn’t be able to handle all the traffic out there,” replied Peter Vickerman, planning manager for Maple Grove.
The Maple Grove Planning Commission recommended approval before Monday’s city council vote. The 15,000-square foot store will be part of a larger retail building, which could also include a small mom-and-pop restaurant or other small business.
