Maple Grove Approves Boston Scientific Expansion Plan
The Maple Grove City Council approved plans Tuesday by Boston Scientific for an 84,000-square-foot expansion to its Weaver Lake Road campus.
The plans come as the med-tech company prepares to open a new campus along I-694 in Maple Grove later this year.
Under the latest expansion plans, Boston Scientific would add to the company’s Weaver Lake 4 building that opened in 2022.
That building is currently 86,000 square feet. The expansion would nearly double its size using existing parking lot space.
According to Maple Grove Planning Manager Peter Vickerman, the initial phase of expansion is nearly 52,000 square feet followed by additional expansion at just under 32,000 square feet.
“They may do those together, they may do them separately, this would approve both phases at once,” said Vickerman.
Vickerman said the expansion could eventually result in 200 to 300 new jobs.
Company officials told the Maple Grove City Council that the expansion would allow for increased manufacturing space for its Watchman device used to prevent strokes for people with atrial fibrillation.

Emily Colletti, senior director of facilities for Boston Scientific, said about 1,400 employees will relocate from the Weaver Lake Road campus to the new I-694 Arbor Lakes campus starting in September.
“With that Arbor Lakes project, there’s a lot of lab space that will be relocating to Arbor Lakes, about 60,000 square feet of lab space, so we will cadence employee moves with that lab space,” said Colletti.
In the short term, there will be fewer employees at the Weaver Lake Road campus, officials said.
“We’re working with Boston Scientific to get an understanding of kind of backfilling some of the vacant spaces,” said Vickerman. “They’re expecting maybe around five years or so before they get up to the employment numbers that they’re at right now.”
According to city documents, construction could start later this year and would occur based on production demands.
