Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Maple Grove Realtor Murder
A Minneapolis man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of Twin Cities realtor Monique Baugh.
It comes almost six years after Baugh was lured to a fake house showing in Maple Grove on New Year’s Eve 2019.
Lyndon Akeem Wiggins, 40, was convicted of aiding and abetting on four counts: one for first-degree premeditated murder, one for first-degree attempted murder, one for kidnapping to commit great bodily harm and one for first-degree murder while kidnapping.
“Today’s sentencing is the culmination of six years of hearings, trials, appeals, and retrials through which Monique’s family has suffered,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a statement. “Mr. Wiggins was responsible for Monique’s death, and we are holding him accountable. He will not harm another member of this community.”
What Happened
On New Year’s Eve in 2019, prosecutors say 28-year-old Baugh was called to a sham house showing in Maple Grove.
According to police, after she arrived at the house, a U-Haul van showed up.
Surveillance video later showed a person forcibly walking someone, who was eventually identified as Baugh, into the van before driving away.
Baugh’s body was found later that day in a north Minneapolis alley.
Her boyfriend was also shot in a home in north Minneapolis, but he ultimately survived.
Wiggins was previously convicted of the crime in June 2022. Then, he was also sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release.
A retrial for Wiggins began in October after the state Supreme Court threw out the original conviction.
Others previously convicted for involvement in the case were Cedric Berry, Berry Davis and Elsa Segura.
