Brooklyn Park Man Struck, Killed by Car
A Brooklyn Park man was struck and killed by a car while crossing the street Thursday night. The incident happened near the intersection of Brooklyn Boulevard and Welcome Avenue in Brooklyn Park at around 9 p.m. Thursday.
Police say the car was traveling westbound on Brooklyn Boulevard and hit the man while he was crossing the street in an area that doesn’t have a crosswalk. First responders administered first aid to the 59-year-old man, but he died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity.
“Anytime you have an incident like this, it’s tragic,” said Brooklyn Park Deputy Police Chief Mark Bruley. “And it’s starting to look like this is a very tragic event where the witnesses indicate that the driver was driving responsibly, was driving slow, and it’s a darker road in the middle of the night like that, accidents can happen. So we’re always expressing to people to use traffic control devices that are out there, use the crosswalks, and be cautious when you cross these busy roadways like Brooklyn Boulevard.”
Police say with Halloween approaching, pedestrians should wear bright clothing. Drivers should be extra cautious and avoid distractions.
