Make-A-Wish Surprises Noble Elementary Student
Volunteers from the Make-A-Wish Foundation surprised a Noble Elementary student during lunch Monday. “Today we presented a very special wish for a first grader who is working on getting better,” says Heather McKnight, a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. “Her wish was to go to Disney World with her family. She’s never been on an airplane so she’s very excited.”
The volunteers caught up with Janiyah Blanchard while she was sitting with her classmates in the school lunch room. Janiyah appeared shy and reluctant to go up to the front of the room, so the volunteers came to her. They led the Noble Elementary students in a song called ‘Happy Wish Day’ that was sung to the tune of ‘Happy Birthday.’ Then, they showed off Disney items and told Janiyah that she would be leaving mid-week with her family for Disney World. “She loves Disney princesses,” says McKnight. “When she was getting better in the hospital, it was Ariel specifically who cheered her up.”
McKnight said Janiyah didn’t have to think very long to come up with what she wanted to ask the Make-a-Wish Foundation for. “It’s a pretty big question, but she knew right away,” says McKnight.
According to its website, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to kids with life-threatening medical conditions.
