Longtime Rep. Jim Ramstad Dies
Former U.S. Representative Jim Ramstad passed away Thursday at the age of 74.
Sources say he had been battling Parkinson’s Disease and was in failing health.
Ramstad represented the Third District for nine terms, starting in 1991. He was a Republican and most known for his work expanding access to treatment for mental health. He also sponsored the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children Act, which requires convicted child molesters to register with the police after their arrest.
A staffer who worked for Ramstad, Erik Paulsen won the seat after Ramstad retired. Now the seat is represented by Democrat Dean Phillips, who just won re-election.
