Large Park Disturbances Again Disrupt Brooklyn Park Neighborhoods
Disturbances with large groups at local parks continue to be an issue for area police departments.
The latest incident occurred late Wednesday night in Brooklyn Park.
Police initially responded at 9:20 p.m. to the area of Central Park for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, Brooklyn Park police say they encountered “a large gathering of several hundred people who were causing a disturbance and acting disorderly.”
Officers got the crowd to disperse at Central Park, but police say the gathering moved to the area of Noble Sports Park less than two miles away where “they continued to behave in a disorderly manner,” read an alert sent out by the Brooklyn Park Police Department.
Brooklyn Park police say they needed assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office to get everything under control.
Last month, police spoke to CCX News following two shots-fired incidents that took place over Memorial Day weekend. Both incidents stemmed from large gatherings of youth.
“It’s been challenging to try and predict where these things are going to happen,” said Brooklyn Park Police Department Inspector Elliot Faust. “It’s impossible to predict, essentially. We don’t have a crystal ball to know where people are going to go, what people are going to do … it’s really a difficult problem to solve.”
No evidence of shots being fired was located in the latest incident, police said.
