Jackson Middle School Students Hold Walkout To Protest ICE Operations
About 150 students from Jackson Middle School in Champlin staged a walkout Tuesday morning to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations happening throughout the Twin Cities.
“No more ICE, no more ICE, no more ICE,” the students chanted, as they stood on the sidewalk along 109th Avenue N.
The Department of Homeland Security calls its enforcement “Operation Metro Surge,” which has brought several thousand ICE agents to Minnesota in the last couple of weeks.

Students from Jackson Middle School walked out of class on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 13 to protest ICE operations in the Twin Cities.
The students said their protest is on behalf of those living in fear.
“And there’s so many innocent people that need it,” said Nathalia Fernandez, an eighth-grade student at Jackson Middle School. “Innocent families, innocent people, so many people died because of this. This is not right, this is our freedom.”
A spokesperson from the Anoka-Hennepin School District said the students participating in the protest received unexcused absences. School administration will work with the students and their families to facilitate appropriate consequences.
