‘It Draws Your Heart,’ Filipino Nurses Help Fund Meals for Nurses Strike
Inday’s Kitchen, a Filipino food truck, helped serve more than 300 meals to picketing nurses on Wednesday.
The truck operators say the strike has impacted a large concentration of nurses within the Filipino community. The Filipino nurses helped fund the meals for the nurses on strike.
“To see them on strike and to see them impacted by what’s going on in businesses today, it draws your heart. It pulls you in, and you want the best for both parties,” said Boo Dava with Inday’s Kitchen.
On Monday, around 15,000 nurses in the Twin Cities and Duluth walked off the job. This included more than 300 nurses who walked the picket lines outside North Memorial Health Hospital. The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) and area hospitals have been negotiating for six months without agreement over wage increases and staffing issues.
The strike is set to end on Thursday morning, but as of late Wednesday, negotiations were at an impasse.
