Ice Cream Sales Soar, Dozens Flock to Plymouth Shop for Heat Wave Escape
The record June heat wave has been unbearable for some, but for people in the ice cream business, it’s a little more tolerable. Not to mention profitable.
“People love to get ice cream during these times, and just enjoy the weather,” said Sam Spaulding, a manager at Honey & Mackie’s in Plymouth. “It’s a really great way to make what can be a hot heat wave that can sometimes be difficult to go through, it makes it that much more tolerable and enjoyable.”
Honey & Mackie’s ice cream shop in Plymouth is one of the places in the northwest suburbs to benefit from the June heat wave.
Over the past week, staff members say it’s common to see a couple dozen people in line during the busiest parts of the day.
“It’s wonderful seeing everyone come out and support the business, especially after COVID,” Spaulding said. “I think people are really especially ready, more than ever, to come out and get ice cream.”
Honey & Mackie’s offers more than 20 ice cream flavors, which change daily. The shop is open every day this summer from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. You can visit its Instagram page for the most up-to-date information on flavors.
