Hy-Vee Coming to Southwest Maple Grove
Construction is set to begin as early as this month on the new Hy-Vee store located in a development called The Markets at Rush Creek. The plans are similar to the ones approved in 2016.
When is Hy-Vee coming to Maple Grove?
Council members say they are continually asked when Hy-Vee is coming to Maple Grove. Council Member Phil Leith says he has been asked that question more than any other in his 12 years serving on the Maple Grove City Council.
“I think part of it is in the whole southwest part of Maple Grove, there’s no store,” said Leith.
Now, council members have an answer that might be more satisfying to residents.
The city approved development plans Monday for The Markets at Rush Creek. The development will go up at 18777 70th Way North in the southwest part of the city. Hy-Vee will occupy a 80,000-plus square-foot space that includes similar amenities to other Hy-Vee stores. It will include a pharmacy, fast casual eating area, clinic, coffee shop and liquor store. There will be an area of the parking lot dedicated to seasonal sales, like pumpkins in the fall and flowers in the spring. There will also be a gas station and convenience store.
The Maple Grove City Council approved similar plans in 2016, before Hy-Vee called a halt to all Twin Cities developments. The construction plans announced by Hy-Vee at Monday’s city council meeting are ambitious. If all goes according to plan, construction would begin by the end of the month and then crews would work to have the building built and enclosed before winter begins.
Serving southwest Maple Grove and Corcoran
This store would serve an area of Maple Grove and growing community of Corcoran. That area currently does not have a grocery store.
Mayor Mark Steffenson said the answer came just in time. Council members would no doubt get the question at National Night Out events on Tuesday night.
“You’ve made tomorrow night much easier for all of us on National Night Out,” says Steffenson. “Now we have an answer.”
