Hmong Community Invited to Explore Your Parks Event in Brooklyn Center
This weekend in Brooklyn Center is an opportunity to explore Hmong culture and enjoy some time outdoors.
On July 19, Brooklyn Center’s Centennial Park will play host to “Hmong Community Explore Your Parks.” Hennepin County is organizing the fifth annual event, which involves funding from the Minnesota Department of Health.

The Hmong Community Explore Your Parks Event will take place on Saturday, July 19 at Brooklyn Center’s Centennial Park.
It’s an opportunity for the Hmong community — and others — to explore recreation and healthy living.
“Hmong community members especially have more serious illnesses with diabetes compared to other communities,” said Roon Makhtal, a senior planning analyst with Hennepin County. “So, this event is one of the ways that we promote physical activity because we know that physical activity is one of the main preventers of chronic disease.”
Some of the activities on Saturday include archery, cycling and a jog around the park. The Hmong Community Explore Your Parks event on goes from 1 to 4 p.m.
