Hennepin Tech Class at Cooper High School Gives Students Taste of Emergency Medicine
This semester Hennepin Technical College is teaching a class at Cooper High School that introduces students to emergency medicine.
“[Emergency Medical Responder] is that first stepping stone to see if you even like the field of medicine in generally and if it’s your calling,” said Sam Kulas, instructor. “It’s a great class to see if you are even interested in the field of medicine or not.”
Kulas says it’s also a way to see if you’d rather lean toward a career that requires more hands-on learning, instead of traditional college.
“You have people who are currently working on ambulances and in the filed, bringing those scenarios and that life-experience to the classroom where we can really critique and say this is what you are going to see,” said Kulas.
The EMR class is the first step toward becoming an EMT. Hennepin Tech also teaches an EMR class at Hopkins High School.
