HealthPartners Begins Closing Retail Pharmacies
A dozen retail pharmacies operated by HealthPartners closed Monday, two of them located in the northwest suburbs.
The closures included Park Nicollet Pharmacy Maple Grove and Park Nicollet Pharmacy Brookdale in Brooklyn Center. Other HealthPartners pharmacy locations as well as its mail-order pharmacy operations will close April 1.
The move impacts about 300 employees, including 100 pharmacists.
HealthPartners announced the closures back in November. Officials say they were because of “economic pressures” that give advantage to larger operators.
The Bloomington-based nonprofit health organization runs 55 primary-care clinics, 22 urgent-care centers and 24 dental clinics.
Last year, grocery chain Lunds & Byerlys closed all 14 of its pharmacy locations, also citing economic challenges.
