Gunman in Plymouth Vrbo Shooting To Be Sentenced March 21
A 20-year-old Brooklyn Park man will be sentenced next month for the fatal shooting that occurred at a Plymouth home rented out as a Vrbo.
Raheim Cooper pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder. Court records show Cooper admitted to having an ongoing Snapchat dispute with the victim before the fatal shooting took place during a party last March at a home on the 5800 block of Oakview Lane.
The victim was identified as 20-year-old Abraham Barbly of Brooklyn Center.
The criminal complaint states that Cooper initially denied involvement in the shooting. He later admitted to punching Barbly, then fired several rounds after he was “bumped or pushed from behind” while holding the gun, the complaint said.
According to investigators, the weapon used in the crime was a handgun modified with a switch device to make it fully automatic. The gun was found in a backpack placed in front of a Plymouth squad car.
The shooting in Plymouth sparked fears and concerns among neighbors. It then led to an overhaul of short-term rental rules in the city.
Cooper is scheduled to be sentenced March 21. Prosecutors plan to seek an aggravated sentence of 20 years.
