Gun Recovered from Backpack at Champlin Park High School
Brooklyn Park police are investigating an incident Friday at Champlin Park High School in which a handgun was recovered from a backpack, police said.
According to Brooklyn Park police Inspector Matt Rabe, police were alerted at around 8:45 a.m. Friday that a student at the school may be in possession of a gun.
“The on-site school resource officer worked in conjunction with school staff to locate any involved students,” said Rabe in a press release.
Rabe said two 15-year-old boys, both students at Champlin Park High School, were arrested without incident for their alleged involvement with the recovered handgun.
Possessing a dangerous weapon on school grounds is illegal in Minnesota and is a felony offense.
The two students were booked at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.
It’s not known why the gun was brought into the school.
Rabe said the incident remains under investigation.
