Gun Owner Faces Charges After Child Accidentally Shoots Himself
A young child was hospitalized Wednesday after he accidentally shot himself in the head at a Brooklyn Center home, police said.
The Brooklyn Center Police Department said officers responded at about 12:40 a.m. to the shooting at a home in the 4200 block of Winchester Lane.
Upon arrival, police found the child, who was semi-conscious. Police said the gunshot appeared to be “a grazing wound.”
The child was taken via ambulance to a nearby hospital. As of this publishing, police said the child was expected to recover.
The owner of the gun, meanwhile, is facing criminal charges.
According to police, a man living in the home had a gun in his bedroom where the child found it and shot himself.
Brooklyn Center police said they recovered the firearm and took the man into custody.
Jail records show a 28-year-old man was being held pending charges for negligent storage of a firearm.
