Graeser Park Restoration Nears Completion
A major restoration project of Robbinsdale’s historic Graeser Park is nearly complete.
“It’s thrilling. It’s beyond imagination,” said Kristi Gibson of the Graeser Park Restoration and Preservation Committee. “Our little group that formed in 2020, we never imagined it could come this far.”
Gibson is part of a group of enthusiastic volunteers who have set out to preserve Robbinsdale’s Graeser Park.
Construction crews hired by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, which owns the park, are putting the finishing touches on the project.
Eleven new picnic tables are one of the new features of the Graeser Park restoration project.
Some of the features include 11 picnic tables, new sidewalks that allow for easier access and a fully restored beehive fireplace.
The fireplace was originally built in 1941 and is one of only two in existence, according to Gibson.
“It’s so special to walk into and see something from the past that we can connect to and we can still enjoy today,” Gibson said.
All of the work should be finished by the end of June.
