Governor to Visit Brooklyn Park Thursday, Talk Manufacturing Jobs
Governor Tim Walz will be in Brooklyn Park Thursday to talk about the current state of manufacturing. Walz will attend the Minnesota Manufacturing Conference held at Minneapolis Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Park.
Walz will discuss his “One Minnesota” vision as it relates to manufacturing. A recent survey of Minnesota manufacturing firms reports 62 percent of job vacancies in skilled production occupations were difficult to fill. A recent CCX News story on the labor shortage shows how it’s making it difficult for some companies to grow.
After the Governor’s address, a Workforce Development Legislative Panel will discuss what Minnesota is doing to support workforce development in the manufacturing sector. The panel includes Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry Commissioner Nancy Leppink; Sen. Eric Pratt, R-Prior Lake; Rep. Jim Davnie, DFL-Minneapolis; and Rep. Barb Haley, R-Red Wing.
The Minnesota Precision Manufacturing Association and the Golden Valley-based Manufacturers Alliance are co-hosting the 2019 Minnesota Manufacturing Conference.
