Governor Issues Timeline To Fill Late Rep. Hortman’s Seat
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has announced a timeline to fill the vacant seat held by the late state Rep. Melissa Hortman.
The House District 34B seat became open after Hortman and her husband were murdered in their Brooklyn Park home last month in an alleged politically motivated attack.
The governor declared the special election to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
If necessary, a special primary election would be held on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Candidates may file with the Secretary of State’s office between July 15 and July 22.
State law requires a special election before the next legislative session in February.
House District 34B includes portions of Brooklyn Park, Champlin and Coon Rapids.
