Golden Valley Public Works Employee Encourages Others in Field
Golden Valley Public Works employee Derek Goddard is a water distribution specialist for Golden Valley. He knows the inner workings of how water flows in the city.
“His job is critical to tens of thousands of people,” said Tim Kieffer, Golden Valley Public Works director.
Goddard also teaches students in the field, too.
“What Derek does, he goes around local schools and talks about public works and the different opportunities to provide customer service,” said Kieffer.
Goddard’s work and commitment to teaching caught the attention of the American Water Works Association, and he recently won an award. He was presented the Meritorious Operator Award by the Minnesota Section American Water Works Association (MN AWWA) this fall. Learn more here.
“His commitment, his dedication to the community is exceptional,” said Kieffer, who also says there’s a need for more people in the public works field. “We’re looking for someone who can come in, be a part of the team, is willing to learn and be eager to learn, work hard and be dedicated.”
Kieffer says the jobs in public works are varied and engaging–there’s always something new to learn.
Goddard enjoys his job and says it’s rewarding, which his why he talks to others about public works.
“I want people to experience the same thing I have,” said Derek Goddard.
