Golden Valley Police Sergeant Dies of Cancer
The Golden Valley Police Department is mourning the loss of a fellow officer. Sgt. Terry Sleavin died Saturday, June 3, after a battle with cancer, according to a press release put out by the city.
Sgt. Sleavin has worked with the Golden Valley Police Department since 2002, when he started as a patrol officer. He was promoted to sergeant in 2020 and acting assistant chief of operations in 2022. Sleavin has served nearly 30 years in law enforcement overall.
“Terry was a dedicated public servant who rose through the ranks during his near 30-year law enforcement career,” said Police Chief Virgil Green in a statement to CCX News. “He was a family man, a wonderful colleague to so many, and above all else, a good friend to those within the police department. His personality will be greatly missed by those who have known him over the past decades and those of us who haven’t known him as long.”
The news is especially difficult among colleagues because Sleavin’s wife, Jennifer, is also a longtime Golden Valley police officer.
“As our department grieves, we ask our community to come together for his family in this time of sadness,” said Green.
Details for funeral services are being worked out and will be made known in the coming days.
