Golden Valley Partners with Hennepin County To Explore Building New Library
A major makeover is coming to the heart of Golden Valley. The city’s library could be a part of it.
As part of the city’s “Building Forward” initiative, city leaders plan to redesign Golden Valley’s civic campus, which includes city hall and the public safety building.
Golden Valley has partnered with Hennepin County to explore the possibility of adding a new library into the mix.
The current Golden Valley library dates back to 1971. County officials say it received more than 124,000 visits in 2025.
“With over 124,000 visits in 2025, we know residents love Hennepin County’s Golden Valley Library,” Hennepin County Library Director Scott Duimstra said in a statement. “We’re excited to explore the possibility for a replacement library in conjunction with the city’s Civic Center Campus Master Plan.”

The Golden Valley Library, located at 830 Winnetka Ave N, was built in 1971.
Community engagement
On March 3, Golden Valley hosted an open house to get public input on the new library idea.
“Community engagement is priority for us,” said Golden Valley Mayor Roslyn Harmon. “It’s so important that as we do this next step that community is involved, they’re engaged, that we hear their questions, their feedback, their concerns.”
The team working on the civic center campus redesign will have its work completed this fall.

Golden Valley’s civic campus is currently home to city hall, public works and the police and fire departments.
