Golden Valley Names City Manager Finalists
The city of Golden Valley has named three finalists for its open city manager position.
The finalists include the city’s interim city manager, Noah Schuchman; Brooklyn Center’s current city manager, Reggie Edwards; and the former city manager of Maplewood, Mo., Michael Reese.
The candidates will be introduced to the public on Thursday evening.
The city hired the consulting firm GovHR USA to assist in the search, which involved an initial pool of 58 applicants. The Golden Valley City Council selected the finalists after GovHR USA narrowed the field to 10 candidates.
“The city council moved quickly throughout the process to ensure that candidates in this competitive market were not lost to other opportunities,” said Pam Dmytrenko of GovHR USA, in a press release.
The eventual hire will replace former Golden Valley City Manager Tim Cruikshank, who retired in March after nearly nine years with the city.
Additional biographical information for each candidate is as follows:
- Reggie Edwards: Edwards currently serves as the city manager for Brooklyn Center, which has 160 employees and a budget of $22.7 million. Edwards has 31 years of experience in local government, previously serving as executive director for the Region Nine Development Commission, an economic development agency in Mankato. He also previously held the city administrator role in Chisago City and was a professor of government at Minnesota State University. Edwards has a doctoral degree in educational administration and leadership from St. Cloud State University, a master’s of public administration degree from the University of Central Florida and a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and marketing, also from the University of Central Florida.
- Michael Reese: Reese served as the city manager for Maplewood, Mo.. which has 75 employees and a budget of $28 million, from 2021 to 2023. Reese has 27 years of experience in local government, including serving for eight years as chief of staff to the mayor of Columbus, Ohio, according to his LinkedIn page. Reese has a master of arts degree in political science from Bowling Green State University and a bachelor of arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University.
- Noah Schuchman: Schuchman currently serves as interim city manager for Golden Valley and has 21 years of experience in local government. Schuchman previously served as the chief administrative officer for the city of Duluth and prior to that as the director of regulatory services for the city of Minneapolis. Schuchman has a master’s of public administration from Hamline University and a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Marquette University.
Meet the finalists
The city of Golden Valley invites the public to meet the finalists on Thursday, June 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the city hall council chambers. Each candidate will answer four to five questions posed by a moderator. In addition, comment cards will be available for attendees to share feedback with the city council.
The Golden Valley City Council is expected to conduct interviews with the finalists on Saturday, June 22, beginning at 10 a.m. in the city hall council conference room. The interviews are open to the public.
