Golden Valley Moves Closer To Naming New Police Chief
The city of Golden Valley is moving closer to naming its next police chief.
According to a city press release, the city is working with GMP Consultants, a state of Washington-based executive search firm on the hiring process. The city plans to hold a public forum next week to allow residents to learn more about the candidates. The forum will be moderated by GMP Consultants.
CCX News reached out to the city of Golden Valley requesting the names of the candidates up for consideration. A city spokesperson wrote back saying the names of the candidates will be released the morning of the forum.
The new chief would replace former Chief Virgil Green, who resigned last October following a pair of months-long investigations into his conduct. According to public documents, Green was accused of attempting to quash an internal affairs investigation. He was also accused of violating city policy for releasing unredacted body camera footage to television news media outlets.
Assistant chiefs Alice White and Rudy Perez assumed leadership duties following Green’s departure.
The public forum will take place Wednesday, March 11, at Golden Valley City Hall council chambers from 5:15 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A city press release said applications for the job were received in January with initial interviews and recommendations made in February.
“The City hopes to make a final selection soon after the March 11 community engagement forum,” the press release stated.
