Golden Valley Monitors Potential Creek Flooding
The city of Golden Valley is keeping its fingers crossed hoping that no high intensity rainfalls occur.
The northwest suburb is one of a handful in the CCX News viewing area that is part of the Bassett Creek Watershed. The good news, according to city officials, is they don’t anticipate severe flooding issues right now. But Golden Valley does have several low-lying streets adjacent to the creek.
“As long as we get nice weather, up-and-down temperatures, and a slow snow melt, we’re not too terribly concerned,” said Jeff Oliver, Golden Valley city engineer. “But we are monitoring the creek. We’re removing obstructions. We’re looking for ice jams. And just keeping an eye on the areas that we know are problematic for flooding.”
Golden Valley crews have worked since Saturday to clear catch basins so street flooding doesn’t back up into yards and possibly homes.
