Girl Scouts Begin Selling Cookies This Weekend
To all the cookie lovers out there, this is the weekend you’ve been waiting for. Girl Scout cookies are now available.
“Well it’s $6 a box, I know it went up [in] price a little bit. It’s still not much,” said Harper Bonneur, a Girl Scout from Mentored Troop 18793. “And besides, the cookies are really good. Maybe it’s your first time trying them. It’s gonna be a good experience.”
Bonneur is a second grader from Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School and one of more than 11,000 local Girl Scouts who will be selling the nine cookie flavors between Feb. 16 and March 24.
During the process of selling the cookies, the young entrepreneurs learn business ethics, people skills, money management, decision-making and goal setting.
“In my mind, it’s raining cookies. Not only do I think about the cookies, but also we’re thinking about the end goal,” said Paulette Bonneur, the troop leader of Girl Scouts BIPOC Mentored Troop 18793. “And what really happens is that the girls get money and funds to support their activities like going to camp, that’s a really big one for our troop. So cookie season is amazing, but really it’s the end result.”
The Girl Scouts have an online tool to help people find cookies closest to them. You can go to GirlScoutsRV.org/Cookies to use the “Girl Scout Cookie Finder,” or text COOKIES to 59618.
