Future of Chalkfest Maple Grove Uncertain As Organizer Disbands
The future of a popular summer arts event that brings thousands of people to Maple Grove every year could be in jeopardy.
The group behind Chalkfest Maple Grove announced that it’s ceasing operations.
The Maple Grove Business Association has organized Chalkfest Maple Grove for a decade.
However, in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon, executive director Kira L. Johnson announced that the group is dissolving on Friday, Dec. 12, citing insufficient financial resources and lack of ongoing support.

“Celebrating its 10th Anniversary last year was a milestone we deeply cherished,” Johnson said in a statement posted to social media. “With our closure, Chalkfest Maple Grove will conclude under our organization, and we will no longer be involved in its future.”
While the door is now closed on the Maple Grove Business Association’s involvement, the announcement left a small window open for the future. The association noted they will no longer be involved, but did not say the event itself cannot be put on by another organization.
Johnson declined an interview request with CCX News and didn’t respond to a question about whether another entity might spearhead the 2026 Chalkfest.
The Maple Grove Business Association suggests that other businesses looking for support should check the city of Maple Grove’s Business Resources Page.
