Fundraising for Barway Collins Memorial Surpasses Goal, Organizers Call It ‘Amazing Generosity’
Former Crystal City Council member Jeff Kolb and his wife, Erin, launched a fundraising campaign in July to raise $15,000 for a statue to honor Barway Collins, who was murdered by his father in 2015. The community has raised more than $20,000 for the statue.
In an update on the fundraiser’s GoFundMe page, Kolb said they have signed a contract with Brodin Studios for an amount not to exceed $15,000. Kolb went on to say the cost of materials is higher than originally anticipated.
There is an additional fundraiser planned for Sept. 2 at Pocket Square Cocktail Lounge in New Hope from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Money from each cocktail will go toward the new statue.
Any money raised above the statue’s cost will go to a scholarship fund in Barway Collins’ name for students in Crystal Parks and Recreation programs.
