Fundraising Effort Underway for Whiz Bang Fireworks
Whiz Bang Days is coming to Robbinsdale later in July and the festival is looking for ways to fund its popular fireworks display. The show takes place on Sunday July 15th.
The cost to stage the Whiz Bang Days pyrotechnics show is $7,000, which is why Robbinsdale has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the event.
So far donations top $1000. But organizers of the Birdtown Half Marathon will match any contribution up to $1,000.
“The reality is that it takes a lot of work and lot of money to put on these events,” said Emily Pearl, a Whiz Bang Days organizer. “I’ve been on the committee for maybe about six or seven years. Every year we kind of get to the point where we say, ‘are we going to be able to do fireworks?’ We need a little bit extra help and this year is one of those years.”
Fireworks are a staple of Whiz Bang Days
The colorful Whiz Bangs fireworks display has lit up the Robbinsdale sky for decades. Event organizers say this year’s show will definitely go on, because the remaining sponsorship dollars will come from city businesses.
But there is no guarantee that will happen into the future.
St. Paul is cutting out its annual July 4th fireworks show because of budget issues. The Whiz Bang Days festival could someday be in the same boat.
Whiz Bang Days is hitting a major milestone as this will be the 70th year of the event.
Whiz Bang Days runs July 12-15. The fireworks show caps off the festivities.
