Fill That Truck! PRISM Receives Large Food Donation in New Hope
Generosity was on full display Wednesday in New Hope.
Two Men and a Truck moving company partnered with Golden Valley nonprofit PRISM for a large food donation drive outside the New Hope Hy-Vee grocery store. The goal this year: fill a truck with 4,000 pounds of food.
Events like this are critical and timely. PRISM saw a 50 percent increase in families visiting its food pantry over the past year.
“If we can take away one piece of anxiety by having enough food for people to have and feed their families, that’s what we’re looking for,” said Kevin Lytle, community engagement manager with PRISM.
Lytle said PRISM serves about 200 people a day.
To fill that need, PRISM says many people have stepped up to help.
“We’ve had people come in with nothing in their hands, they go shopping for about 20 minutes and they’ll come out with four or five bags of food and they’ll drop off three or four bags of food in the truck to fill the truck, and just take one bag home with them for themselves and their family,” said Lytle. “That’s just incredible to me.”
PRISM is also collecting unwrapped toys for its Holiday Toy Shoppe. It plans to distribute toys to as many as 1,000 kids on Dec. 16.
