Fight Investigation Underway at Armstrong High School
Robbinsdale Area School District administrators spent Thursday investigating what led to a fight that disrupted classroom learning at Armstrong High School.
According to school officials, the fight occurred Wednesday afternoon between several students in a hallway toward the end of the school day between the fifth and sixth periods.
Staff intervened to break up the fight and the Plymouth Police Department was called in to assist.
The incident caused administrators to shift to an e-learning day for most Armstrong students on Thursday.
“We are investigating the situation however, due to the gravity of the incident we have determined that Thursday, May 16 will be an asynchronous learning day, meaning most students will learn from home using their district devices,” wrote Armstrong High School Principal Erick Norby in a letter to parents.
Norby said that “situations like these are taken extremely seriously and are thoroughly investigated.” He added that the school will follow discipline guidelines outlined in a student code of conduct handbook.
School officials said they were unable to share additional information about those involved due to student data privacy laws.
Following the response from staff and police Wednesday, Armstrong High School went into a “hold” for periods six and seven before school was dismissed.
“A building ‘hold’ is when we ask students to remain at their current location until an announcement is made to resume their normally scheduled activities,” said Norby in the letter.
Armstrong staff was also made available for student support.
“We understand these situations can create feelings of stress and anxiety,” said Norby.
