Driver Killed After Vehicle Flips Over in Brooklyn Park
A driver was killed Thursday after that person’s vehicle flipped over near a busy Brooklyn Park road and ended up submerged underwater in a ditch.
According to Brooklyn Park police, first responders were called at around 8:25 a.m. Thursday to an area near Green Haven Drive and County Road 81, which is near railroad tracks and across the street from the Walmart Supercenter store.
Brooklyn Park police said a witness called 911 after observing a vehicle had flipped over.
Upon arrival, officers and firefighters found the vehicle, which had veered off County Road 81.
“Brooklyn Park firefighters worked relentlessly to extract the driver, however, the vehicle was submerged in a creek with higher and faster than normal water flow due to the rain,” police said in a news release.
Police said first responders needed tow trucks to reach the vehicle. The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was eventually pulled out, but was pronounced dead at the scene by North Memorial Health paramedics.
The identity of the driver has not yet been released.
It’s also not yet known what caused the driver to crash.
Brooklyn Park police say they received assistance in their accident investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol, the Hennepin County Water Patrol and Hennepin County Crime Lab.
