Demolition Underway for Osseo’s Municipal Cannabis Store

1:12 PM | Wednesday, June 3, 2026

The city of Osseo is a few steps closer to having its own municipal cannabis store. It now has a name — Osseo Press Room Dispensary — and demolition is underway at the site, located at the former Osseo Press and News building.

Still, there is work to be done.

Inside, there’s enough space for two businesses. The dispensary will take up about half of the building; the other half will be rented to a tenant with an outdoor patio space.

City officials have been considering a municipal store since 2024. They finalized plans to put it in the former Press building, located at 33 Second St. NE, in 2025, and now, work is in motion.

“It’s exciting to be at this point. This is something that we’ve put a lot of work and thought into over the last year and a half,” said Alicia Vickerman, Osseo’s assistant city administrator.

The city council reviewed renderings of the business in May. The dispensary will be windowless and have its entrance on Coon Rapids Boulevard. A rendering for the other half of the building shows garage-like windows and doors with a main entrance facing the parking lot. No tenant is decided at this time.

Osseo is working with Voyager Cannabis Services to operate and staff the dispensary. Profits from the store will go back into the city’s tax base.

Vickerman said, eventually, the dispensary plans to have its own branding on items like gummies, along with merchandise available to buy.

Next Steps

The Osseo City Council will soon vote on a property tax abatement, which reduces property taxes on the building as an incentive for business growth.

Residents can learn more about it at a public hearing on June 22. The council is expected to hold a vote on July 13.

“It’s a different type of tax abatement that would allow financing to happen based on income that comes from an existing tax district,” Vickerman said.

Workers are currently driving trucks around and moving debris from the inside of the building. After demolition, the city will go to bid for a contractor on June 8.

Construction on the building should occur in August, September and October. City leaders are targeting November for the opening date.
