Crystal Project to Improve Bassett Creek Water Quality
A major project along the Bassett Creek watershed in Crystal is nearly wrapped up. It will not only alleviate local flooding but also improve water quality.
Crews have been working since late January to dredge Winnetka Pond.
The $1 million project dredged the pond to a depth of six feet so that it could store more water.
The project should help improve water quality down stream in Bassett Creek and the Mississippi River.
“I think as Minnesotans, everybody really values water quality, the streams and rivers and lakes that we find in our communities,” said Laura Jester, administrator for the Bassett Creek Watershed Commission. “And this is one of the ways that we can do it.”
Officials from the Bassett Creek Watershed Commission are asking people to help improve the water quality by keeping grass clippings, leaves, fertilizer and salt out of the streets.
