Crystal Police Support Officer With Cancer Through Pink Patches
Crystal police are on a mission to help one of their colleagues who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
Officer Daniela Romo joined the Crystal Police Department in February. Two months later, doctors diagnosed her with the disease during a routine exam.
When she began her chemotherapy regimen in May, other Crystal officers began wearing pink patches on their uniforms as a show of support.
Now, the Crystal Police Association is selling mini versions of those patches for $10, with all proceeds going toward Officer Romo to help with medical expenses.
“She showed up to serve this community and had been working for four solid months to serve those people around here,” said Deputy Chief Brian Hubbard of the Crystal Police Dept. “This is a great way for us to rally around her, and the community to rally around, and serve her in return.”
The pink patches are available in the front lobby of the Crystal police headquarters, located at 4141 Douglas Dr N.
Officer Romo occasionally works in the office when she’s able. However, the department hopes to have her back working full-time by the start of next year.
