Crystal Mayor Announces He Won’t Seek Re-election
Saying he plans to embark on a “new chapter” in his life, Crystal Mayor Jim Adams announced on Tuesday he won’t seek another term as mayor.
Tuesday was the filing deadline for cities that offer primary elections.
Adams has served as Crystal mayor for 12 years. His current term runs through the end of the year.
“Over the past years we’ve worked together to tackle challenges and seize opportunities,” said Adams, reading a letter he wrote to residents. “I’m proud of what we accomplished as a community.”
After Adams read his letter, council members and city leaders gave Adams a standing ovation.
The mayor said one of his highlights is eliminating the city’s use of bonding funds for major projects, using cash instead.
Adams said the move “has contributed to our city finance stability.”
‘New Chapter’
The mayor said his next chapter will be focusing on a nonprofit that works to support people in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction.
“This cause is deeply personal to me,” said Adams. “And I’m eager to devote my energy to make a positive impact in that realm.”
The mayor went on to say he’s confident in the future leadership of Crystal, saying the city is filled with “dedicated individuals.”
Two candidates have filed to run for mayor, former Crystal City Council Member Julie Deshler and Rachel Braaten, who serves on the city’s Environmental Quality Commission.
“As I look ahead to the future, I’m filled with hope and optimism for Crystal’s continued success,” said Adams. “Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this incredible journey.”
