Crystal Hosts Organics Recycling Drop-Off Site
People in the northwest suburbs without access to curbside organics recycling pickup don’t have to travel far to dispose of their organic materials.
In Crystal, there’s an organics recycling drop-off site located in the parking lot of the Crystal Cove Aquatics Center.
Anyone who registers is welcomed to bring items like food scraps, food-soiled paper (such as napkins and pizza boxes) and other compostable products.
The Hennepin Recycling Group opened this drop-off site in June of 2022 and has 300 registered members so far, but they’re always accepting more people.
“You’ve got to start somewhere, or else you’re not going to get to where you want to go,” said Tim Pratt, the administrator for the Hennepin Recycling Group. “And so it’s satisfying, and it’s satisfying for the folks who sign up because they know what they’re doing. They know the environmental benefit that it’s providing.”
This site collects more than 500 pounds of organics every week. If you’d like to sign up, you can go to the Hennepin Recycling Group website.
