Crystal Honored for Edible Courtyard, Young Mudder Race
The city of Crystal received recognition for innovative efforts to help people eat healthy and stay active.
The Minnesota Recreation and Park Association (MRPA) presented Crystal with an award for its edible courtyard outside the Crystal Community Center. The garden provides anyone with free access to fruits, vegetables and herbs. The group’s awards committee called the edible garden “a true showcase of health and wellness, social equity and conservation.”
Crystal also received a MRPA award for its Young Mudder obstacle race. The adventure run at Valley Place Park took place last year will be held again this Saturday. It drew about 185 kids last year and could draw an even higher number this year.
The Young Mudder has 12 obstacles and a fair amount of mud that the West Metro Fire-Rescue District helped create. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Valley Place Park in Crystal. It’s open to kids ages 6 to 12. The entry fee is $25.
