Coolant Leak Forces Evacuation of Plymouth Ice Center, Life Time
The Plymouth Ice Center and Life Time facilities were evacuated Friday morning due to a coolant leak, which produced a strong ammonia smell.
The problem occurred shortly before 9:20 a.m. Friday and the building’s emergency ventilation system kicked in. According to city officials, Plymouth’s police and fire departments responded and the state’s Chemical Assessment Team was called in.
“There is no fire or combustion risk associated with this leak, and it is contained to the building,” read an alert released by the city through social media.
According to city officials, the problem was traced to a shaft seal that came loose on a compressor.
No injuries were reported.
Both the Plymouth Ice Center and Life Time reopened Friday afternoon after the issue was resolved.
