Construction Starts on Plymouth Creek Center Expansion, Renovation
A popular Plymouth destination spot is getting a makeover. On Friday, city and state officials broke ground on the Plymouth Creek Center renovation and expansion project.
The first phase of the project has already started. The two-year renovation plan will add many amenities to the two-decades-old facility. Upgrades include two full-size gymnasiums, a dedicated year-round indoor walking track, an indoor playground, a fitness studio, art rooms, and more. City officials say the improvements will benefit the city’s growing population.
“Plymouth Creek Center was built over 20 years ago, and it was designed as the first step to be a gathering spot for the community, for our residents, and over those 20 years we all knew at some point Plymouth would get to a point where we would need to expand,” said Plymouth Mayor Jeff Wosje. “This is going to be, I’m confident, a source of pride for our residents.”
The $49 million project will add 80,000 square feet to the existing building. The Minnesota State Legislature awarded $5 million in bonding money toward the project.
