Complaint: Suspect in Fatal Brooklyn Park Shooting Felt ‘Disrespected’
A Brooklyn Park man has been charged with second-degree murder in Saturday’s fatal shooting of a man in a Brooklyn Park back yard where young children were present, according to criminal charges filed on Tuesday.
Lue Chang, 32, is accused of firing multiple shots that killed Nichanon Kittikroekphon, 34, of Coon Rapids. The shooting happened at a home in the 8400 block of Adair Avenue N. just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Brooklyn Park police described the shooting as a “chaotic scene” where a family gathering had been taking place celebrating the birth of children.
According to the criminal complaint:
A witness told police he was in the back yard playing cornhole with family when he heard three shots. He saw Chang then fire an additional shot to the back of the victim, who was seen on surveillance video attempting to crawl away.
On the last shot, the video showed a small child, possibly 2 years old, standing approximately a foot away from the victim, the complaint read.
The witness and others at the gathering jumped on Chang to detain him and get the firearm away.
When one of the witness asked Chang why he shot the victim, the suspect said “because he disrespected me.”
Kittikroekphon was rushed to North Memorial Health Hospital, where he died.
Brooklyn Park police said the suspect and victim were relatives.
Jail records show Chang remains in police custody held on $1 million bail. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
