Complaint: Suspect Drops Off Shooting Victims at Hospital in Stolen Vehicle
A Minneapolis man tried to evade Robbinsdale police in a stolen vehicle during an early morning chase before the suspect crashed, charging documents revealed.
Before the crash, the man had allegedly dropped off two shooting victims at North Memorial Health Hospital, where the stolen vehicle was spotted, the documents showed.
Nazarye Singleton, 20, is charged with fleeing a police officer and theft of a motor vehicle, both felony crimes.
According to the criminal complaint:
On Thursday, April 2, at about 1:45 a.m., Robbinsdale police learned of a shooting that involved a stolen vehicle. Police located the stolen vehicle, identified as a white Infinity QX50 SUV, at North Memorial Health Hospital, where two shooting victims had been dropped off.
A Robbinsdale officer saw the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Oakdale and Abbott avenues north, the charges stated.
The officer began pursuing the vehicle, which police said was traveling at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour in a 20 mph zone.
“The vehicle drove on the sidewalk and slid over a curb into bushes,” the criminal complaint noted. “The vehicle reached 100 mph and briefly crossed into oncoming traffic before crashing through two chain link fences and ending in a rollover.”
The driver traveled into north Minneapolis before losing control and rolling the vehicle onto its roof.
The complaint said Singleton asked officers, “Did I almost get away?”
