Cities Begin Adding Organics Recycling
Hennepin County will require all cities to offer organics recycling by 2022, so cities are updating their ordinances to require haulers to offer this service.
New Hope already approved the measure.
Plymouth voted to require all licensed haulers to provide curbside organics recycling upon request by customers. So, customers can opt-in if they choose too. The city wanted to comply to this new rule without raising the prices for all customers and without requiring extra trucks on the street. This requirement would take effect in January 2022. Brooklyn Park will vote again at its next meeting to offer organics recycling. The council directed the staff to require haulers to offer recycling collection like they offer yard waste collection. Upon taking a closer look at its code related to recycling, Brooklyn Park made a few changes, saying it hadn’t been updated in 30 years. Listen to that discussion here.
